"Volunteering at LIFEbeat has provided me with the opportunity to distribute health information in nontraditional settings. HIV/AIDS is a topic that has been taboo in many communities. LIFEbeat encourages people to discuss this devastating disease and how it can be prevented."

A Man Who Knows the Consequences: A Testing Day Message from Andy Fraser

Andy Fraser, songwriter and former bassist for the influential rock band Free, shares with LIFEbeat his personal story and speaks out about the importance of getting tested.  Knowing first-hand the consequences and that AIDS does not discriminate, Andy urges everyone to take control and take the test:

"Hi, this is Andy Fraser.  I used to get tested every six months, always negative.  So I figured I was doing everything right and slacked off getting tested regularly.  Guess what: I got positive.  Somewhere, sometime, I had been careless.  And it wasn't until some nasty symptoms showed up that one realizes this isn't something a few pills can make you forget. Message: get tested regularly and avoid a lot of grief."

National HIV Testing Day is Friday, June 27, 2008.
